A Winter Story

I heard a bird sing in the dark of December
A magical thing, and sweet to remember
”We are nearer to Spring than we were in September”
I heard a bird sing
in the dark of December.
— Oliver Herford

Last December, during an especially dark December day, I took myself on a wander through a local antique mall. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular. I just needed to get out of the studio and hoped to find a little inspiration for a new project. I had recently become a bit obsessed with making junk journals and learning different ways to bind my own books. So the focus of my treasure hunt turned to vintage paper. I found this beautiful Christmas greeting card on a little rack in a dark corner and the handpainted winter scene was just the spark of inspiration I was looking for. I knew it was going to become something very special.

Well the winter of 2020 is behind us and I just realized that I never shared the video flip through I made of this journal with you. I tried to add some music to set the mood but had too many technical challenges and gave up. So you’ll have to play your own favorite tune while you watch. It’s a long video and I didn’t speed anything up. You’ll probably need two or three songs and some cocoa!

Warm wishes for a wonder-filled winter!

Colleen
